Birmingham brought its ‘Big City Plan’ to China in November 2008 to attract Chinese investors to the second biggest city in the UK. Birmingham City Council Leader, Mike Whitby pointed out the opportunity with, “over 40 million people live within a two hour drive to the centre of Birmingham”. NICG companies worked with Mike Whitby and a team of senior colleagues who travelled out from the UK. Through the NICG exceptional government and business relationships in China, Mike Whitby was able to present his ‘Big City Plan’ at a major event and dinner in the prestigious St Regis Hotel in Beijing. Of key value for Mike Whitby and his team was how NICG managed the guest list that included the most influential real estate developers in China. As a result a number of major delegations were motivated to travel from China and further explore opportunities in Birmingham.
